Accommodation In Algeria
The capital city of Algiers has a handful of international and local brand name hotels, including a Sheridan and a Hilton, which have both tended to suffer mixed reviews, but which on the whole conform to world standards and are the mainstays of business and diplomatic travel to the capital. There is also a small selection of local, exclusive hotels, the prices for which might cause a sharp intake of breath for the first timer. If this is so it might then cause you to look for something cheaper which you will find in the area Place Port Said where a handful of cheap hotels are tucked away.
Further afield the eastern city of Oran also offers a Sheridan with the same rather pricey tariff, as well as a small selection of clean and well ordered hotels with a more affordable price tag. The smaller towns along the coast offer a limited number of hotels of varying standards, with open houses and guest houses punctuating the selection. These tend to be much more affordable than the big name hotels in the main cities, and might be an option for an isolated beach holiday.
Cheap accommodation, ranging from US$5 to US$15, can usually be found in most of the better known destinations, and even as you head south into the desert some of the smaller centres en-route offer facilities of sorts. However it is noticeable that an established tourist infrastructure in Algeria is lacking, and while under its Horizon 2025 program the government has revealed a somewhat cosmetic determination to address this vacuum, for the near future at least tourist facilities will remain fairly sparse on the ground.
