Flights To Libya
Libya is served by one major international airport, Tripoli International Airport which is situated in the town of Ben Gashir some 34km south of the city center. A second interntational hub, Benina International Airport, situated in the city of Benghazi, serves a more local and regional network.
For all its apparent indifference to tourism, Libya is an important regional power and a major player in the pan-Arab axis. The country is therefore well connected to the outside world, with a variety of scheduled connections available from Europe and the Middle East, although no direct flights from either North or South America or Australia.
The principal connections are through local carrier Afriqiyah which includes in its flight schedule Amsterdam, Brussels Düsseldorf, London/Gatwick, Paris, Geneva, Rome and Jeddah. It also offers connections to many local, regional and pan-African capitals.
Alitalia flies in from Milan and Rome, Austrian Airways from Vienna, British Airways from London/Heathrow, KLM from Amsterdam, Lufthansa from Frankfurt, Swissair from Zürich and Turkish Airlines from Instanbul.
Emirates Air flies in from Dubai, Qatar Airlines from Doha, Royal Jordanian from Amman and Syrian Arab Airlines from Damascus.
Bearing in mind the vast empty spaces in Libya the country enjoys a comprehensive and reliable domestic airline network serving some 18 separate local airports and airstrips.
